Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

Further to my previous ‘Weekly Message’ of two weeks ago, I’m pleased to report that my GP did give me the all clear to travel to Germany with Sybille on Tuesday 18th August. We had a most enjoyable time, including walking 85km along the first part of Der Ökumenische Pilgerweg from Görlitz to Kamenz. We safely returned to Prague on Tuesday 25th. My thanks to Jack Noonan & Rev’d Dr Karen Moritz for respectively leading worship & preaching at St Clement’s last Sunday, and to the Hellam family for looking after Šárek the cat and coming to the Chaplaincy Flat to water the plants during our absence.

I remain most grateful for the prayers of so many of you and for the numerous enquiries about my health & wellbeing. I’m still having to make regular visits to my GP – one yesterday & another tomorrow morning, as she tries to sort out the correct INR level in my blood & the exact amount of Warfarin that I need to take each day. I also have to have two further medical investigative procedures during the first half of next month.

That’s enough about me! Now some information about what to look forward to this coming Sunday & then further ahead in September.

Sunday 30th August at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Thirteenth Sunday after Trinity
Our Old Testament reading will be Deuteronomy 4. 1-2 & 6-9. Our New Testament reading is the first of four instalments from the Letter of James – James 1. 17-27. And after five weeks of working our way through chapter six of the Gospel of John, we return to the Gospel of Mark – Mark 7. 1-8, 14-15, 21-23. Cool Drinks and Light Refreshments will be served at the back of the Church following worship.

After worship & refreshments this Sunday, your Church Council will be meeting. Therefore I’ll have more to tell you in my ‘Weekly Message’ next week. But here are dates and some details for your diaries.

Sunday 6th September – Children’s Ministry will resume.

Sunday 6th September at 17.00 – next Brno Service. And on the first Sunday of October, November & December.

Tuesday 8th September – 18.30-20.00; Our weekly meeting for Study & Fellowship will resume

Thursday evenings, we plan to run a ‘Christian Basics’ course – what do Christians believe & why! More details next week, including the exact starting date

Sunday 13th September – Visit to the Church at Slavětín nad Ohří
There will be a repeat of last September’s most successful outing to the Church at Slavětín nad Ohří and its most remarkable wall paintings. The proposed programme is as follows:

13.00 following our Sung Eucharist and post-service refreshments, we will set out by coach and about 40 minutes from Prague, on the road to Louny / Slavětín, is the village of Třebíz.

Třebíz centre is now converted into an open-air museum (a Skansen). But do not imagine anything like other Skansens in the country. This local open-air museum is not a closed area, concealed from external interference. The village square, where people normally live, is surrounded by a few houses that are decorated and furnished like old times.

The Trebizsky distillery has been recently converted to a fine, but economical, restaurant – where we will be able to purchase whatever lunch each of us would like. (The distillery shop also sells its range of fruit liquors, which are rather fine.)  The village was the home of Václav Beneš Třebízský (1849-1884), the famous herbalist, cobbler and writer.

After lunch and a brief look at the village, we will go on to Slavětín – and we will celebrate Evening Prayer at approx 16.00.  We should be back in Prague by 18.30.

The exact cost is still being sorted out & will partly depend on the number of bookings. But it shouldn’t be any more than CZK 300 per person. There will be a sign up list at the back of Church or alternatively email Gordon, gordontruefitt(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk to book your place.

Finally for this week……
Copies of the new Autumn edition of our Diocesan magazine, ‘The European Anglican‘ arrived yesterday & will be available free at the back of Church, this coming Sunday.

Best wishes

Ricky
