Vítejte - Welcome!

Welcome to St. Clement’s, a vibrant English speaking Church located in the centre of Prague in the Czech Republic – with both expats and locals worshipping together in the heart of this beautiful city, the “City of a Hundred Spires” and a jewel of Central Europe, since 1904.

St. Clement’s belongs to the worldwide Anglican communion of Churches within the Church of England Diocese in Europe, and whether you are a tourist waiting for your Sunday afternoon flight home or the return to your river cruise, a short term resident here on assignment or a long term Prague veteran, we invite you to come and join us any and every Sunday at 11am at St. Clement’s church, Klimentská 5, Prague 1 to enjoy Church of England Sung Communion together with hymns both traditional and modern, accompanied by our fabulous organ and choir. In addition we celebrate Evensong based on the 1662 Book of Common Prayer twice a month. Please see our Calendar of Events page for further details on all our services and events.

There is a Children’s Ministry during most Sunday services (except for the holiday months of July and August each year), as well as restroom facilities and a small area at the back of the church specially set up with toys and craft materials to keep the littlest ones entertained when there is no Children’s Ministry within eyeshot. There are other regular events throughout the year where you can take part, too, from an annual fundraising auction to communal picnics, film nights and concerts by both our own musicians and visiting choirs – please see our Calendar of Events page for further details.

On this website you can find out everything you need to know to join us and join in, the history of Anglicanism in Prague and the history of our church at Klimentská 5, our comprehensive Safeguarding measures that are in place, and even details that you need to know if you wish to hold your wedding here or have the sad duty of organising a Remembrance Service for a loved one. Perhaps you are curious about who St. Clement was? Almost every other question you can think of is answered on our FAQs page.

If you are located in Brno we also have a growing Anglican community there and you can find further details here and on brnoanglican.cz.

Finally, don’t forget to follow us on Social Media at Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for the very latest bible readings for the day, an introduction to religious art through the ages illustrated with the most beautiful creations of famous artists and architects, inspiring posts about the Czech Republic including tips to explore, and finally inspirational biblical quotations, as well as details of our services and activities. Our History

The first Anglican service in Prague was held on 13th November 1904 at Gerberstrasse 13 (now Barvířská Ul.). It was conducted by the Reverend Walter Naish, who had been employed by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, a missionary society founded under royal English charter as long ago as June 1701 as the official overseas missionary body of the Church of England, a Society that still exists today.

Much has happened since then as this beautiful country we live in has suffered through not only a terrible dictatorship but also Communist authoritarianism, finally becoming a fully fledged European democracy. We invite you to explore the history of Anglicanism in Prague and the Czech Republic!

Safeguarding

St. Clement’s is committed to safeguarding those who are vulnerable within  our community from any kind of harm, whether it is children, teenagers and young adults, or the elderly, and whether the potential harm is physical, emotional, economic or psychological. We follow the House of Bishops’ guidance and policies and have our own trained Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO) as well as safeguarding guidelines and procedures which are strictly adhered to. If you are concerned that a child or vulnerable adult at St. Clement’s has been harmed or taken advantage of or may be at risk of harm or being taken advantage of, please contact the St. Clement’s current PSO Alexander Rupert Felsing via safeguarding@anglican.cz or the Safeguarding Team of the Diocese in Europe via this link. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the Czech police.

Mission Statement

We believe that our mission in Prague is to be Salt and Light in the world: for, like Salt, a person full of the Holy Spirit will have a preserving influence on the world and by living their Christian values they will alert people to God’s perspective on the world; and Light – for when we are full of light the world sees and gives Glory to God because of it.

When we are willing to be Salt and Light we cultivate in those we come into contact with an appetite for God – or at least a curiosity, since we are a phenomenon to them since we live in the same world and them but live differently. It makes them wonder what gives us that kind of joy.

Children

We welcome children as full participants at our community and them to be safe when they are on church premises or
attending a church event.

We are committed to encourage an environment where all people are able to worship and pursue their faith journey in safety.

Mission Statement

We believe that our mission in Prague is to be salt and light in the world: salt – so that by our distinctive values we alert people to God’s perspective on his world; light – so that we illuminate Jesus Christ for others to see and respond to.
