Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,
I look forward to welcoming many of you to worship this coming Sunday and especially welcoming back, those of you who have been away for several weeks over the summer.
Sunday 25th August at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Thirteenth Sunday after Trinity
The Bible readings set for this Sunday are Isaiah 58. 9-14, a further portion of the Letter to the Hebrews – Hebrews 12. 18-29, and the story of Jesus healing a woman bent double, but doing so on the Sabbath, as recorded in Luke 13. 10-17. Do try to read the passages for yourself in advance of hearing them publicly read on Sunday morning. There will cool drinks & light refreshments served at the back of Church, following the service.
Please be aware that if you normally use the Metro to get to Church, the middle section of the Yellow line, including the nearest metro station to St. Clement’s, Náměstí Republiky, is out of use for the whole of this weekend. There is a replacement tram service, but do check carefully about your route & give yourself extra time for your journey on Sunday.
Programme for the Autumn
Your Church Council is meeting on Sunday after worship & refreshments. One important item on our agenda is our programme of activities between now & Christmas. So if you have any ideas as to what you would like to see happening at St. Clement’s in the coming months, why not speak to one of the Church Council, whose details & smiling faces can be found here or reply to this email. I would particularly like to hear of suggestions for study topics to look at on Tuesday evenings, when regular weekly meetings re-start on Tuesday 10th September.
Welcomers, Intercessors, Readers
I am very grateful to everybody who takes part in the life of St. Clement’s, by undertaking these roles. But we need more of you, especially Welcomers & Intercessors. If you would be willing to help in carrying out any of these tasks & being part of our regular rota, please get in contact with me. Training will be given, so don’t think that if you volunteer, you will be left floundering.
Helping the homeless in Prague in cooperation with the Salvation Army
We are still collecting tinned food to support the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague. It was nice to hear a few clunks with tins being put into the wheelie bin last Sunday.
But a reminder of what I wrote two weeks ago. We currently DO NOT have the wheelie bin for collecting winter clothes. That will return, probably sometime in September, and when it does, I shall announce it via this message & in Church. In the past few weeks, several bags of clothing & other items, including an electric fan!, have been dumped beside the tinned food wheelie bin in the porch at the west end of the Church. Please remember that the Church building is NOT ours & we cannot use it as a dumping ground! Please only bring what I ask for via this message, and only when we have the facility to store it.
Sermons on our website
Apologies, that no new sermons have been uploaded to our website in recent weeks. I’m hopeful that now our technical guru David Hellam, is back in Prague, he will be able to sort out those Gordon Truefitt has managed to record whilst David has been away, transfer them to a memory stick, so Sybille can then upload them during next week. Watch out for an update in next week’s Weekly Message, or check here in a few days time.
Best wishes
Ricky
