Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

As always, I invite you to join us for worship this coming Sunday.

Sunday 10th November at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Third Sunday before Advent

Our readings will be some familiar words from an otherwise fairly unfamiliar Old Testament book – Job 19. 23-27a. The Epistle will be our second of three reading from Paul’s second letter to the Thessalonian Church – 2 Thessalonians 2. 1-5 & 13-17. The Gospel Reading recounts a dispute between the Sadducees & the Pharisees that is brought to Jesus – Luke 20. 27-38. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and Coffee Hour in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18, following worship.

Within our worship, we will acknowledge that, for UK citizens, it is Remembrance Sunday, being the nearest Sunday to 11th November, & also that for Americans, Monday 11th November is Veterans Day. Remembrance poppies will be available at the back of Church, for a donation to the annual poppy appeal.

Sunday 10th November at 18.00 – Holy Communion with hymns in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, Nové sady 32a, Brno.

It being the second Sunday of the month, after Coffee Hour, I shall be travelling down to Brno for our regular monthly service there in the evening.

Tuesday 12th November 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18

Our Study & Fellowship Meetings continue looking at the Letter of James – next Tuesday, Chapter 3. We had an excellent session last Tuesday, as I’m sure we will once again, this coming Tuesday. We’ll finish our time together by saying Evening Prayer.

Carol Services in December

Some advance dates for your diaries, especially as I’ve already been asked more than once, ‘When is the Carol Service?’

Saturday 7th December – 16.00 Ecumenical Children’s Carols in St. Clement’s

Sunday 8th December – 17.00 Australian Girls Choir Concert in St. Clement’s

18.00 A Service of Lessons & Carols in Brno

Sunday 15th December – 18.00 A Service of Lessons & Carols in St. Clement’s

All of these services and events, are excellent opportunities to invite English-speaking friends who do not normally come to Church, to come with you to worship. Start thinking as to those you are going to invite!

Two requests for help

We need to lay on appropriate seasonal refreshments in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18, following the services on the afternoon of Saturday 7th and in the evening on Sunday 15th. I would love to hear now, from anyone willing to help on either occasion.

I would also like to have some company for the Brno Carol Service on the evening of Sunday 8th. I shall driving down after worship at St. Clement’s in the morning & should have you back in Prague for around 22.30 in the evening. There is room for up to four other people besides me. Interested? Then speak with me or send me an email.

Salvation Army Wheelie Bins

A big ‘Thank you!‘ to everyone who has contributed to supporting the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague. I’m pleased to say that the bin for warm winter clothing, is almost full and I shall be arranging for the contents to be collected early next week. However, the bin for tinned food still has plenty of room! Let’s hear a few more clunks from tins being dropped in this coming Sunday.

I was at a meeting with the new British Ambassador earlier this week, at which Major Mike & Major Ruth Stannett, who head the work of the Salvation Army in the Czech Republic, were also present. They both expressed their thanks for what we are currently doing to support their work, but also said that, with the coming cold winter weather, they will soon once more, be very busy seeking to provide food, clothing and shelter for the many homeless men and women in Prague.

That’s enough from me for this week.

Best wishes

Ricky
