Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

My Church Book & Desk Diary for 2014 declared on Monday 3rd February, ‘Ordinary Time starts today‘. Why? Because with the Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple which we celebrated last Sunday, the Epiphany Season came to an end. And with Easter Day being quite late this year, (Sunday 20th April), we will have four and a half weeks, including four Sundays, of Ordinary Time, before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent on Wednesday 5th March.

On the first three Sundays of this period of Ordinary Time, (or ‘Green Season’ as some people call it because of the liturgical colour used), we will have a Gospel reading drawn from Jesus ‘Sermon on the Mount’ as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew. I’m sure this will provide plenty of good material for sermons! Therefore……

Sunday 9th February 2014 at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Fourth Sunday before Lent

The Gospel reading will be Matthew 5. 13-20 whilst our other two readings will be Isaiah 58. 1-12 and 1 Corinthians 2. 1-16. The preacher this coming Sunday will be Jack Noonan. There will also be parallel Children’s Ministry but I’m afraid, NO Coffee Hour following the service. Earlier this week, I had an email from Pastor Eva Halamová of our host congregation, saying that they wish to hold a lunch following their Sunday service meaning we cannot have the use of the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18. This happens two or three times a year and is a slight downside of borrowing another congregation’s facilities :-(

After our worship at St. Clement’s on Sunday morning, both Jack & I will be off on our travels for our monthly evening service in Brno starting at 18.00.

Holy Communion with hymns in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, Nové sady 32a, Brno.

Tuesday 11th February 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18

Our regular Tuesday evening Study & Fellowship Meetings continue studying the Letters of John from the New Testament. This coming Tuesday, we shall be looking at 1 John 5. 1 – 21. We will finish by saying Evening Prayer together. If the ground floor door of Klimentská 18 is locked, press the bell marked Kancelář & we’ll buzz you in!

Supporting the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague

As I wrote in last week’s Weekly Message, last Friday afternoon I met with František from the Salvation Army at the Church, so he could collect all your donations of warm winter clothing and tinned food, supporting their work with homeless men and women in Prague. I can tell that the volume of goods did take quite some time to be loaded into František’s vehicle. So thank you to everyone who contributed! Last Sunday morning, it was good to see both wheelie bins already beginning to be refilled. This is just a reminder that there is still plenty of room to receive your new donations!

And finally for this week

A reminder that our Treasurer Gordon Truefitt would like to know ASAP, if there is anybody who has donated money to St. Clement`s in 2013, by planned-giving envelope or bank standing order, who has NOT received an email from him about `Tax letters` to contact him gordontruefitt(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk urgently.

Until Sunday

Best wishes

Ricky
