Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

I want to start this week’s Weekly Message, by saying a big ‘Thank you!’ – to everyone who has contributed tinned food and clothing in recent weeks, and placed them in the two red wheelie bins at the back of Church, supporting the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague. Yesterday, I was at Church, awaiting the arrival of the Salvation Army truck to collect all your contributions. Whilst waiting, I took this photo :-)

Therefore, both bins are now empty, awaiting your further donations ;-)  A reminder that we need:

Tinned food – any food in a tin, but NOT packets or jars.

Clothing for adults – both men and women – underwear and socks are just as useful as jackets and sweaters. Depositing clothing in a plastic bag or carrier, helps enormously when the wheelie bin contents are collected.

Now looking forward to worship this coming Sunday…..

Sunday 6th November at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Third Sunday before Advent

Our Old Testament reading is the extremely rare occurrence in the three-year cycle of readings from the Revised Common Lectionary that we follow, when a reading comes from the book of Job – Job 19. 23-27a. All lovers of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ will be familiar with the words of Job saying, ‘I know that my Redeemer lives’ which are recorded here. Our second reading will be our second instalment of St Paul’s Second Letter to the Thessalonians – 2 Thessalonians 2. 1-5 & 13-17. In it, Paul instructs the Thessalonian Christians not to be led astray by those claiming that the Second Coming of Jesus has already taken place. Instead, they are to, ‘stand firm and hold fast’ to the faith that they had been taught. The Gospel reading will be Luke 20. 27-38 where Jesus is recorded responding to a very tall story brought to him by the Sadducees and challenging their lack of belief in future resurrection. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Coffee Hour in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

With it being the first Sunday of the month, I shall then be off down the D1, for our regular monthly service in Brno.

Sunday 6th November at 17.00 – Holy Communion for the Third Sunday before Advent

The service will take place in our regular Brno venue – ‘The Upper Room’, corner of Jezuitská and Mozartova, Brno.

Tuesday 8th November at 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18

The third of five Bible Studies, looking at Paul’s First Letter to Timothy followed by Evening Prayer. We will be looking at the passage 1 Timothy 3. 14 – 4. 16. Why not join us this coming Tuesday? If the ground floor door of Klimentská 18 is locked, press the bell marked Sborový Kancelář & we’ll buzz you in!

Three other things for this week……….

Sermon: My sermon from last Sunday is now available to listen to once again – or for the first time if you missed it :-) Just click on this link:

Remembrance poppies: Thanks to Diane Tvaroha, these will be available at the back of Church again this coming Sunday, as well as on Sunday 13th November, in return for a donation to the poppy appeal.

Service of Lessons and Carols for Christmas: Having already been asked twice for the date & time of this service :-) I can tell you that it will be held on the evening of Sunday 18th December, commencing at either 18.00 or 18.30 – exact starting time to be resolved in the next week or so.

Best wishes

Ricky
