Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

Thank you

A big ‘Thank you’, to everyone who helped to make our Pentecost worship last Sunday, so enjoyable. We had a wonderful variety of shades of red across the congregation and we heard ‘The Lord is here, His Spirit is with us’ in fourteen different languages.

Tonight…..

……is Noc Kostelů, Night of the Churches when many Churches all across Prague are open for people to visit with each Church having a programme of activities through the evening. See www.nockostelu.cz but be aware that it’s all in Czech

Sunday 26th May

is Trinity Sunday. Come and join us for our Sung Eucharist at 11.00 which will include singing some of the wonderful Trinitarian hymns. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry. Following our worship, there will be a Bring-and-Share Lunch in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18. On this occasion, we don’t have a particular theme. Please just bring food that can be easily carried & then shared with others.

Tuesday evenings

I had originally intended to have one more Tuesday evening study session before taking a summer break. But as several regular attendees have advised me of their unavailability, there will not be a session on Tuesday 28th May. However, suggestions & ideas for topics to cover when we reconvene in September, would be most welcome.

Our current financial position……

….was inevitably one of the important things considered by your Church Council when it met last Sunday. Our Treasurer Gordon Truefitt reported that, ‘The Stewardship campaign produced lots of continued support, but to date, little new money’. We are most grateful for that continued support but if you received a stewardship letter and have still not responded to Gordon, please could you do so as soon as possible.

We have received a grant from the Hamish Parker Trust & have also been promised further financial support from the Intercontinental Church Society (ICS), though not as much as in 2012. So we still have an anticipated gap between expected income & regular expenditure that we will need to bridge.

Please don’t forget that one painless way to help us is if you are buying anything from either Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com. By using this link before purchasing, we get a small commission on each transaction. I’ve just passed CZK 788 to Gordon which is what our American friends have effectively contributed over recent months, by using our Amazon.com link.

Two other things arising from the Church Council meeting

As from a week on Sunday – i.e. from Sunday 2nd June, we will move to having Cool Refreshments served at the back of Church rather than having Coffee Hour. Don’t forget that on Sunday 23rd June, we will have our Picnic-in-the-Park, immediately following our worship. More details next week.

The other issue raised was the perennial one of people arriving late, making it very difficult to start the service on time. This is particularly embarrassing when we have visitors who always tend to come early & are left sitting there, wondering when the service will start. Often, as last Sunday, when it is 11.00, there are very few of the regular congregation present, just visitors. Please can people make a genuine effort to be in Church on Sunday by 11.00 at the latest?

Finally for this week

Some of you may know that Tim Voase, the Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy, is running from Prague to a Military base near Brno over this coming weekend. He is doing it to raise money for Help the Heroes and a Czech charity. He has a Facebook page – ‘Tim is running’, and a website . As his wife Nia says, “this will give detail of what exactly my mad husband has decided to do. It is all duel language information. Should people feel able then sponsoring him too would be even better. Please can you think of him in our prayers and hope that his legs carry him the whole journey and that he helps other do things that they would not otherwise be able too with his sponsorship”.

With best wishes

Ricky
