Dear People & Friends of St. Clements,

This week seems to have passed very rapidly & I also don’t have so many things to highlight. I suspect I will have a lot more to communicate to you next week following the meeting of your Church Council this Sunday. So briefly…..

This Sunday 23rd January 2011 at 11am – Sung Eucharist for the Third Sunday of Epiphany

The Gospel reading is Matthew 4. 12-23 which describes Jesus beginning his public ministry in Galilee including calling, (or re-calling in view of last Sunday’s Gospel!), the first of his disciples. I shall also be reflecting on the Epistle reading from 1 Corinthians 1. 10-18 where St. Paul speaks of ‘the foolishness of the cross’. Why not have a look at each of these passages in advance of attending worship on Sunday.

I’m afraid that we cannot have Coffee Hour on Sunday because our host congregation are having a lunchtime event and wish to use the facilities on the third floor of Klimentská 18 themselves. This always tends to happen a couple of times a year and is something we just have to accept when we don’t own our own building.

I’m also afraid that there will not be Sunday School on Sunday as we do not have anyone of our current teachers available to teach. I am in the final stages of compiling a Sunday School (or Children’s Ministry as I’ve been encouraged to call it) teaching rota for the period between now and Easter – I’m just waiting for clarification from one of our existing teachers. But it does highlight my previous appeal for one or two new Teachers for our Children’s Ministry. As the poster at the back of Church declares, St. Clement’s needs you! Please speak with me if you would be willing help with the important work of passing on the Christian faith to the next generation.

Wednesday 26th January – Meet the Chaplain in Prague City Centre I will again be available for a chat + coffee or tea & biscuits, between 4pm and 6pm at

Communio Centre Karolíny Svĕtlé 21 (diagonally across from the Rotunda of the Holy Cross) Prague 1

At 6pm, I will say Evening Prayer at the same venue and would welcome others to join me. There is an easy booklet to follow, just as we have on Sunday, and within the service there will be the opportunity for extemporary or silent prayer. The service itself will last no more than thirty minutes.

Then from 6.30pm until 7.30pm, there will be an Informal Bible Study, again at the same venue.

It is always great to know in advance who is coming to any or all of these events. But you are equally welcome just to turn up! And whilst offering the 4pm – 6pm time slot in a central location is so that people can just drop by to chat, I am always willing to meet up with people at other times and in other places by appointment. Just ask!

Sunday 30th January at 11am – Sung Eucharist for the Fourth Sunday of Epiphany Normal ‘service’ will be resumed with Children’s Ministry/Sunday School which will be led by TerriAnne Novak and Coffee Hour will follow on after the service on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

Finally for this week….. The new Winter edition of ‘The European Anglican‘ magazine arrived at the Chaplaincy flat today & will be available at the back of Church on Sunday. CDs of our BBC recorded service ‘On the Feast of Stephen’ are also still available in return for a donation to Church funds.   That’s all for this week. I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday morning.

Best wishes

Ricky
