Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

It was good to see many of you at worship in Prague last Sunday morning. Jack Noonan & I also had a good time with the Brno congregation on Sunday evening. One interesting statistic is that there were more children in Brno congregation than the Prague congregation last Sunday! If you enjoyed Jack’s sermon and want to listen to it again – or if you missed it, then it is now uploaded to this website. Just go here and click on the date & sermon details.

Now to this Sunday and the coming week ahead.

Sunday 16th February 2014 at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Third Sunday before Lent

Along with the opening verses of Psalm 119. 1-8, our other two Bible readings follow on directly from the Epistle and Gospel passages we heard read last Sunday – 1 Corinthians 3. 1-9 and a further portion of the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5. 21-37. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and Coffee Hour will follow the service.

Tuesday 18th February 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18

Our regular Tuesday evening Study & Fellowship Meetings continue studying the Letters of John from the New Testament. This coming Tuesday, we shall be looking at 2 John. We will finish by saying Evening Prayer together. If the ground floor door of Klimentská 18 is locked, press the bell marked Kancelář & we’ll buzz you in!

Looking further ahead…..

There are two more Sundays before Lent begins – Sunday 23rd February, when I will again be the preacher, and Sunday 2nd March, when Rev’d Dr Karen Moritz will be the preacher. On the intervening Tuesday 25th February, we will have our final study from the Letters of John looking at 3 John.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which this year is Wednesday 5th March. There will be a Eucharist with (voluntary) imposition of ashes starting at 19.00 that evening. There will be No Tuesday Evening Study Group the previous evening.

On the first five Tuesday evenings of Lent – 11th, 18th, & 25th March, 1st & 8th April, my good friend and ministerial colleague Rev’d Dr Karen Moritz, will be leading a course entitled ‘Discerning Your Spiritual Gifts‘. It will be based on a book of the same title by Lloyd Edwards, an American Episcopal priest who was at one time Karen’s spiritual director. Karen describes the course as a ‘fun and interactive process’. Copies of the book have been ordered which will hopefully be with us before the end of February. Depending on exchange rates and carriage costs, they should cost around CZK 200 each. It will not be essential to have the book to be part of the course but we thought most people might like a copy.

Karen will say more about the course this coming Sunday & I will have fuller details in next week’s ‘Weekly Message’. In the meantime, mark the dates & plan to use Lent 2014 as a time for your own spiritual growth and renewal.

Until Sunday

Best wishes

Ricky
