Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

Firstly, a big ‘Thank you’ to the numerous people who responded to my previous ‘Weekly Message’ and offered their commiserations when I explained that I’d gone down with flu. I’m very aware that I wasn’t the only one – there seems to have been a lot of it about! My sympathies and best wishes for a speedy recovery to all those who are still suffering.

I was therefore most grateful that Jack Noonan was preaching last Sunday. If you missed it or would like to hear Jack’s sermon again, it is now available to both listen to & read on our Church website here.

As was indicated in the Weekly Bulletin last Sunday, we were due to have our annual visit from Bishop Dušan Hejbal of the Old Catholic Church in the Czech Republic, this coming Sunday. Unfortunately, he too has been ill as has Petr Jan Vinš who would have been interpreting for him. Therefore his visit has been postponed until Sunday 7th December. So instead, it will be me!

Sunday 12th October at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity
As well as the familiar words of Psalm 23, we will also have our fourth and final instalment from St. Paul’s Letter to the Philippians 4. 1-9, along with the Gospel reading which is Matthew 22. 1-14. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Cool Drinks & Light Refreshments will be served at the back of the Church.

Tuesday 14th October 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18
The fourth in our series What should be the Christian response be to moral/ethical issues facing our world today? Starting by seeking to find a Biblical view of marriage, we’ll explore the issue of polygamy, of which there are numerous examples in the Old Testament, and also prostitution, a very present reality in Prague today. We’ll end our session by saying Evening Prayer together. If the ground floor door of Klimentská 18 is locked, press the bell marked Kancelář & we’ll buzz you in!

Three other things to draw your attention to
Last Sunday, sitting in the congregation was Adam Snellgrove, who broadcasts an Expats Bulletin in English each weekday, on Radio Praha. After the service, Adam recorded an interview with me, the first half of which was broadcast last Tuesday evening. You can listen to it online here. The second half is due to be broadcast next Tuesday evening & will no doubt appear online around the same time.

Thank you to all those who have placed their used postage stamps in the collecting envelope pinned to our noticeboard at the back of the Church. These help raise funds for the Intercontinental Church Society (ICS) who support us prayerfully and have also supported us financially in past years. If you have any used postage stamps sitting at home, please can you make sure that you bring them to Church no later than Sunday 26th October, and place them in the collecting envelope. I will be going to the UK for a week at the end of this month, to see my new grandson & help my son celebrate his thirtieth birthday, and will call in at the ICS HQ & will be able to deliver our used stamp collection in person.

And a reminder of the need for warm winter clothing for both men & women, including underwear & socks, together with tinned food, to go in the two wheelie bins at the back of Church, to continue our support of the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague.

That’s enough for this week.

Best wishes

Ricky
