Important! As the Annual Chaplaincy Meeting (AGM) has been postponed to Sunday 21st April 2013 (see Ricky’s Midweek Message >>>here<<<)
the Church Electoral Roll is now open again until Saturday 6th April 2013!
Short Version – If you want to be on the next St. Clement’s electoral roll, you need to do one of the following:
- Download the form from our website following one of these links >>>PDF-Format<<< or >>>DOC-Format<<< fill it out, sign it and either hand it to me or Ricky in Church or post it to us. Alternatively you can also print it, sign it, scan or photograph it and send it to me or Rick by email.
- Pick up a form in Church, fill it out, sign it and either hand it to me or Ricky in Church or post it to us.
The Longer Version – In FAQ form:
What is the electoral roll and why should I be on it?
Basically it is the membership register of our Church. Those who are on it are entitled to vote on decisions made during the Annual Church Meeting and to be voted for offices like Church Council member. In short, if you want to influence what is going on at St. Clement’s, you need to be on the electoral roll. And no, it doesn’t cost anything ;-)
But I was on it last year, why do I have to fill in the form again?
True, normally if you are on the roll, you stay there, unless you require to be removed from it or you leave the country. However, every 6 years the roll has to be renewed completely and everybody has to apply again to be included. This allows to take people of the roll that have been “uncontactable” for several years and whose whereabouts are unknown. Otherwise the roll would fill up with people that never bothered to tell us that they moved away …
Who can apply for being on the electoral roll?
To apply to be on the electoral roll you need to be baptised and 16 years, or older, PLUS you have to be either
- A member of the Church of England OR of a Church in full communion with the CoE and normally resident in the Czech Republic.
OR
- A member of the Church of England OR of a Church in full communion with the CoE and, whilst not being normally a resident of the Czech Republic, having habitually attended worship at St. Clement’s for the previous 6 months before you submit your application.
OR
- A member that is in good standing with his / her own Church, that is not in communion with the CoE, but subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, and is willing to declare him/herself to be a member of the CoE and has habitually attended worship at St. Clement’s for the previous 6 months before you submit your application.
Will all applications be approved?
Yes, as long as you fulfil one of the conditions outlined above.
I have received more than one email regarding this – Why?
Two possible reasons:
- We have more than one email address for you on file and don’t know which one works best, so we played it safe by sending this email to both.
- There is more than one person in your household that might be entitled to apply for inclusion in the electoral roll, but we had only one email address. So we sent it twice to alert you to that fact ;-)
I know of somebody that comes regularly to St. Clement’s but hasn’t received any email regarding this – Why?
Because I am only human. If you know of such a case, please feel free to forward him or her the link to this page and / or to notify me of my shortcomings. Thanks!
What happens if I ignore the email I have received?
I will pester you with follow-up emails until you reply ;-) So, if you don’t want or can’t applying for the electoral roll, make sure you send me an email stating that fact and I will remove you from my “follow-up email list” – promised!
Until when to I have to submit my form?
The form has to be with me or Ricky no less than fifteen days before the Annual Meeting which is on Sunday 21st April. Therefore no later than Saturday 6th April 2013.
I still have questions, whom do I ask?
Either me or Ricky, just reply with your question(s) to this email and we do our best to sort you out!
Who are you?
Oops, forgot to mention that bit, didn’t I? I am Sybille Yates, married to your chaplain, the Rev. Ricky Yates, and for this year the poor soul that has to mastermind the renewal of the electoral roll. OK, I volunteered for the job, so I shouldn’t complain! And yes, I do have the approval of the Chaplaincy Council to handle your private data (name and email address) for this purpose …
