Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

This coming weekend is a somewhat busy one, as far as I am concerned. On Saturday afternoon, I shall conducting a wedding at St. Clement’s, in advance of worship on Sunday in both Prague and Brno. Therefore…..

Sunday 8th September at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity

Our Bible readings this Sunday are Psalm 1, followed by virtually the whole of St. Paul’s shortest & most personal letter in the New Testament, Philemon 1-21. The Gospel reading contains some difficult but challenging words of Jesus, as recorded in Luke 14. 25-33. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following the service, Cool Drinks & Light Refreshments will be served at the back of Church.

In the afternoon, I will be travelling down to Moravia, for our regular monthly service in Brno, starting at 18.00 in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, Nové sady 32a, Brno. For the first time, the service will include a baptism – the first child of a British-Czech couple whose wedding I conducted three years ago, who are currently building a house on the outskirts of Brno with a view to permanently living there and joining the Brno congregation.

Tuesday 10th September 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18

Our regular midweek Study & Fellowship sessions resume. I’ve entitled our first four sessions, Questions of Faith. The aim is to tackle questions that I, and I expect, many of you too, get asked by non-believers once they find you are a Christian and go to Church. Whilst we probably won’t come up with complete answers, I hope our discussions will enable us to, ‘Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that is within you’. 1 Peter 3. 15. On Tuesday evening, we start with:

Do Christians, Muslims and Jews, worship the same God?

Future dates & questions will be:

17th September – How would you answer a Czech agnostic?

24th September – What’s so unique about Jesus?

1st October – Why go to Church when I can worship God in my garden?

We’ll end each session by saying Evening Prayer together.

A reminder that on Sunday week…….

Sunday 15th September

Following our Sung Eucharist at 11.00, there will be a Shared Lunch in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18. As we did earlier this year, the lunch is entitled ‘A Taste of Home’. The idea is to bring a dish that is typical of where you originate from, which can be shared with others.

New in Church this Sunday…….

……will be copies of the Autumn edition of the ‘European Anglican‘ magazine. Also copies of the Intercontinental Church Society (ICS) Prayer Diary Supplement for September and October. Supplies of both of these arrived via the post at the Chaplaincy Flat this past week.

And don’t forget that we are still collecting tinned food to support the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague. I’d love to hear a few more clonks on Sunday morning made by tins landing in the red wheelie bin!

Best wishes

Ricky
