Welcome to this week’s Midweek Message.

Entering Ordinary Time

Last Sunday was Trinity Sunday, the first Sunday of what is known in the Church Calendar as ‘Ordinary Time’. From now until All Saints Day on Sunday 1st November, we count Sundays after Trinity and the liturgical colour is green. Therefore, this coming Sunday…..

Sunday 14th June – First Sunday after Trinity – 11am Family Eucharist

As with our service on Sunday 17th May, the children will remain in Church for the whole of the service which should last no longer than one hour. And a note from our Fundraising Committee about our June Fundraising Event which will follow the service.

June 14th is our last Fundraiser before the summer break!

Sue and I will provide scones, strawberries and whipped cream (don’t panic Sue is making the scones!, not me ;-) ) and we will have a lucky dip both for children and for adults. In case you are like me and don’t know what a lucky dip is, it is basically a big box fill with polystyrene chips or the like.  Every ticket bought gives you the ‘right’ to one dip to retrieve one little gift/parcel that is hidden in the depths… So we have something to eat and to play and to win! The whole event will take place, weather permitting, in the little park we went to last time or in Klimentská 18. A decision will be made on the day.

In case you want to contribute something, just bring some finger food to share. Some people (thanks Maddie, Diane, Vina, Andrej!) have already signed up to bring cakes and soft drinks, but it would be great if YOU also could bring a bit to share. Regarding the gifts for the lucky dips, we have some, but could still do with more. They really, really don’t have to be expensive, just be creative and inventive, a good idea/thought goes a long way… If you want to bring some, please wrap them, so that they are more difficult to guess and don’t get damaged so easily.

We hope to see you ALL on Sunday,

Sybille and Sue

Sunday 21st June – Second Sunday after Trinity – 11am Sung Eucharist

Bishop Dušan from the Czech Old Catholic Church will be visiting us for the first time for worship since my Institution & Licensing service on 28th October 2008. There will be Sunday School for the children that morning. However, that will be the last time Sunday School will meet until it resumes on Sunday 6th September. Children will still be very welcome at our Sunday worship during July and August and the ‘Rug Rats’ provision will be available as normal at the back of Church.

Coffee Hour & After Service refreshments during the summer months

We will continue to have Coffee Hour after the services on Sunday 21st & Sunday 28th June on the third floor of Klimentská 18. Then in July & August, as in previous years, we will provide cool drinks after the service at the back of the Church. Caroline Studdert who organises Coffee Hour, has put up a list on the noticeboard at the back of Church for people to sign up to host the two Coffee Hours in June &/or to organise the cool drinks in July & August. Like many of you, Caroline herself is away on a number of Sundays during this period, therefore we need people to volunteer. Please either sign up on the sheet or ring Caroline on 736 415 935.

Midweek Events

The Tuesday morning Breakfast Prayer & Study Group will meet once more at 8.15am on Tuesday 30th June at Bohemia Bagels, Masná 2, nr Old Town Square when we will discuss the last two chapters of John Ortberg’s book entitled ‘When the game is over it all goes back in the box’. We plan to re-start, probably in September, almost certainly studying a book from the Bible. Watch this space!!!!

There is no Thursday evening meeting tonight but we will meet the following three Thursdays, 18th & 25th June & 2nd July at 7pm at Sue Anderson’s flat for a light supper and to complete our series of studies on the Book of Revelation. If you would like to join us, either speak with me or with Sue (731 178 731), especially if you need directions. Sue’s flat is in the same development (but in a different building) as the Chaplaincy Flat.

Looking ahead to July

Sybille and I will be on holiday (British English) vacation (American English) after I conducted the Sung Eucharist on Sunday 5th July until Tuesday 21st July. Therefore the services on Sunday 12th & Sunday 19th July will be non-eucharistic services of Morning Prayer led by the laity. The service on Sunday 12th July will be led by Marshall Johnson with Mark Newkirk preaching and the service on Sunday 19th July will be led by Gerry Turner with a sermon/preacher/homily to be sorted out shortly.

I did try, without success, to get a locum chaplain from the UK to come & live in our flat & conduct Sunday worship during our July holidays/vacation. I am now quite glad that I was unsuccessful as a notice has gone up by the access door to the stairway of our flat, saying that the nearby heating plant will close down between 14th – 20th July, meaning that there will be no hot water in the flat during that time!!!! I think we timed our holiday/vacation well!

May I endorse what Sybille & Sue say above & join with them in hoping to see you ALL on Sunday.

Best wishes

Ricky
