Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

Eastern Archdeaconry Synod

Jack Noonan, Gordon Truefitt & I are all safely back from our attendance at the annual meeting of the Eastern Archdeaconry Synod in Attica, near Athens. As always, it was good to meet up with and share fellowship with clergy & laity from the various Anglican congregations scattered across our vast Archdeaconry. For those who don’t know, the Eastern Archdeaconry stretches from Poland, the Czech Republic & Austria eastwards, including all the former Soviet Union except the Baltic states, & including all of the former Yugoslavia, Greece & Turkey.

The Synod meeting is always an important reminder that we are not just an isolated Christian congregation but part of a worldwide Church. And whilst we may feel that we struggle somewhat in Prague, especially on the financial front, we have it far easier than many others in our Archdeaconry such as those who live and work in Putin’s Russia or are coping with economic difficulties such as those currently being experienced in Greece.

Jack Noonan licensed as a Reader

One of the highlights of this year’s Synod meeting was the licensing by Bishop Geoffrey of Jack Noonan as a Reader to serve in our Chaplaincy. This took place during a Eucharist on Saturday 29th September, celebrating the feast of St. Michael & All Angels. There is now a full report with pictures on our Church website here & also on the Diocesan website here . Just click the links to see & read the reports. Jack may not be able to be with us this coming Sunday as he’s gone down with a cold but he will be with us on Sunday 14th October and wishes to say a few words to the congregation about how he sees his future ministry with us in Prague & Brno.

Last Sunday at St. Clement’s

Whilst I was attending worship in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Athens last Sunday morning, the celebrant and preacher at our Sung Eucharist in Prague was ThDr Petr Jan Vinš, a young priest from the Old Catholic Church in the Czech Republic. His sermon is now also on our website here. Again, just click the link to either listen or read his address.

A message from our webmaster

Over the next weeks I plan to do some re-working of our website www.anglican.cz. To help me with this task I ask you to please fill out this survey:

So far, only one person has completed the survey following this request in last week’s Weekly Message! Please, can more of you do so?

Harvest Festival this Sunday 7th October at 11.00

This Sunday, there will be Family Eucharist to celebrate Harvest Festival. I will be the celebrant with David Hellam preaching. David wishes to remind everybody that Harvest Festival at St. Clement’s will involve our children participating in a number of ways.

1) Don’t forget to bring more tinned food to support the work of the Salvation Army feeding the homeless here in the Czech Republic. During next week, we will be arranging for the wheelie bin of tinned food to be collected. Lets make it as full as possible!

2) Our children have been working on some artistic displays

3) The children will play an integral part in sharing the message of the Harvest Festival.

4) We will have a surprising difference for the intercessions, suggested and made by the children

5) After the service, the children will be selling home made cookies and cakes, with the proceeds going to the charity ‘Send a Cow’.
