Dear People & Friends of St. Clements,

If you weren’t one of the 87 people in Church last Sunday, you missed a musical treat – our visiting choir from Cornwall, UK, The Callington Singers. The good news is that David Hellam recorded the whole service & once he has created the CD & passed it to the webmaster, it will uploaded onto our website. As soon as it is uploaded, I’ll let you know. Watch this space!

This coming Sunday, we have another musical treat in a slightly different genre. Phebe Starr from Australia, who has been performing each evening this past week as part of the Prague Fringe Festival, will be singing during the administration of Communion at our 11am Sung Eucharist. If you haven’t yet heard her sing, make sure you’re there on Sunday. If you have already heard her sing as I have, I know you’ll be there anyway!

The other event in the coming week that I want to draw your attention to is next Tuesday 7th June between 6.30-8.00pm in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18 when Květoslav Tomáš Krejčí will speak about The Old Catholic Church in the Czech Republic. As you may know, our legal status as an Anglican congregation is as ‘The English-speaking parish in Prague of the Old Catholic Church’. If you want to know more about the Old Catholics and their relationship with the Churches of the Anglican Communion, please come along, both to listen and to ask questions. Květoslav is a fluent English-speaking lawyer and is an elected lay member of the Synodal Council of the Old Catholic Church in the CR.

One of the really encouraging things that has happened in the past 12 months has been the emergence of two members of our congregation offering to train to be Licensed Readers – David Hellam & Jack Noonan. David had previously been training in the Diocese of Cyprus & the Gulf whilst he & the family were members of the congregation of St. Paul’s, Kuwait. We are currently waiting to hear what, if any, further courses of study he will need to complete before he can be licensed as a Reader in the Diocese in Europe. Jack has now been accepted for training as a Reader in our diocese and we are also waiting to hear what courses he will be required to complete, taking into account his previous courses of study whilst living in his native Ireland.

However, as both are ‘trainee Readers’, I have invited both of them to preach at St. Clement’s in June – Jack on Sunday 12th & David on Sunday 26th. Together with Rev’d Dr Karen Moritz, who will be licensed to do what a Reader can normally do via the Ecumenical Canons of the Church of England, it does mean that in the next few years, you will be able to hear different voices in the pulpit from time-to-time which I’m sure will greatly enrich the life of the St. Clement’s congregation.

In the meantime, here are dates & details of what we have planned at St. Clement’s during June. I’ll explain more about each event week-by-week but please look at this programme and put dates & times in your diaries now! It promises to be an exciting & enjoyable month.
