Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

I’m writing & sending out my Weekly Message early this week, for one important reason – to say that I’ve gone down with flu. I started getting a sore throat whilst on the Parish & Synod outing to Louny & Slavětín nad Ohří on Sunday afternoon, and I now ache all over & have very little voice. Therefore, this evening’s Study & Fellowship meeting is CANCELLED! I am very sorry to have cancelled our Tuesday evening sessions, two weeks running, but I have no desire to pass on to anyone else, what I’m suffering from at present! Hopefully, normality will return next week & the session planned for tonight, will then take place on Tuesday 7th October.

Some words of thanks……
…….to several people who helped me so much during our recent hosting of the 2014 Eastern Archdeaconry Synod meeting.

To Evelyn Zimmerman for providing & masterminding refreshments on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon. And, aided by husband John, on Sunday morning following worship.

To Ata & Silvia, for the amazing lunch they provided for all our synod guests on Sunday. And to Tasci & Honza, who tirelessly washed up & cleaned up during & following the lunch.

To Alasdair and Monika, for undertaking welcoming duty on Sunday & coping with a congregation nearly double the size to a normal Sunday!

To Stephen Weeks, who put together such a fascinating and enjoyable Parish and Synod outing on Sunday afternoon, together with Gordon, aided by Eva, who got us an excellent coach hire deal.

Finally thanks to Jack, who helped and supported me in so many ways, throughout the synod meeting.

Many synod members have thanked me for the warmth of the welcome that they received during their time in Prague. The joyful worship on Sunday morning, was particularly appreciated, as was the quality of our music – thank you Michal! If you enjoyed Bishop Robert’s sermon, and I certainly did, it is now available to listen to once again on our website. Just click on this link . If you were not there on Sunday, I particularly recommend you to listen to it! As always, my thanks are due to David Hellam for the recording of sermons each week. He in turn apologises that he, most unusually, had a technical failure on Sunday 21st September, which is why there is no recording of my sermon available from that day.

Supporting the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague

Last Wednesday afternoon, whilst I was having a pre-Synod chat with Archdeacon Patrick Curran, František from the Salvation Army, came by arrangement, and took away the contents of the two red wheelie bins at the back of the Church. The clothing bin was completely full & the tinned food bin, over half full & thus extremely heavy! As František said to me, ‘Rough period of the year is about to start and we will need both food and clothing’. So please help to refill the bins – warm winter clothing for both men & women, including underwear & socks, together with tinned food.

And now to our worship this coming Sunday.

Sunday 5th October at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity
Our preacher will be Jack Noonan and the Biblical readings will be Isaiah 5. 1-7, our third instalment from St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians 3. 4b-14, whilst the Gospel reading is Matthew 21. 33-46. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Cool Drinks & Light Refreshments will be served at the back of the Church.

Then, as it will be the first Sunday of the month, I shall be off to Brno following a quick lunch, for Holy Communion with hymns, starting at 17.00 in ‘The Upper Room’, corner of Jezuitská and Mozartova, Brno.

Here’s hoping I’m fully recovered by Sunday when I look forward to seeing many of you at worship.

Best wishes

Ricky
