Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

I’m safely back from attending the 2016 Eastern Archdeaconry Synod in Warsaw and looking forward to being the Celebrant and Preacher at our services in Prague and Brno, this coming Sunday. If you want to know more about the Synod meeting, I’ve just finished compiling and posting an article about it on my blog. You can find it here. See if you can spot, Jack Noonan, Gordon Truefitt and me in the photograph :-)

In that blog post, I quote a small part of Bishop Robert’s address to the Synod. If you would like to read all of it, something I highly recommend, you can access it here.

Today is also a significant anniversary as on this day four years ago, during the 2012 Eastern Archdeaconry Synod, held in Attica, near Athens, Jack Noonan was licensed as a Reader by Bishop Geoffrey Rowell. Here is the photographic evidence :-)

Now looking ahead into the new month of October.

Sunday 2nd October at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity

Our Bible readings this coming Sunday will be Psalm 37. 1-9, which we will say responsively. This will be followed by the opening section of St. Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy – 2 Timothy 1. 1-14. Our Gospel reading will be Luke 17. 5-10 where the disciples ask Jesus, ‘Increase our faith!’ Whilst I will be the preacher, Rev’d Nathanial  will be our Celebrant, doing so for the first time at St. Clement’s. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Cool Drinks & Light Refreshments will be served at the back of the Church.

It being the first Sunday of the month, I shall then be off down the D1 for…….

Sunday 2nd October at 17.00 – Holy Communion for the Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity
in ‘The Upper Room’, corner of Jezuitská and Mozartova, Brno.

Then please note that, from Monday 3rd October, I will be taking the last two weeks of my annual leave for 2016. I will be back on duty on Tuesday 18th October. However, there will worship on both Sundays I am away – here are the details.

Sunday 9th October at 11.00 – Harvest Festival Family Service
The service will be led by David Hellam. For this service, David specifically asks that people bring tinned food which can be placed in the red wheelie bin at the back of the Church at the end of the service, supporting the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague. Following worship, there will be a ‘Bring and Share’ Lunch in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

Sunday 16th October at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Twenty-First Sunday after Trinity
The Celebrant will be Rev’d Nathanial and the Preacher will be Jack Noonan. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Coffee Hour in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

Tuesday Evenings
Whilst I’m away the next two weeks, there will not be any Tuesday evening meetings. But we will re-start on the evening of Tuesday 18th October. On that evening, and on the following five Tuesday evenings, I will lead a series of Bible studies looking at St Paul’s First Letter to Timothy, which conveniently has six chapters :-)  It contains instructions to Timothy about the conduct of Church life, the qualifications for Church leaders, and much more. Let’s see if we learn together and seek to apply what we learn to the life of St. Clement’s. Each evening, we’ll spend the final twenty minutes of our session, saying Evening Prayer together.

Finally for this wek…..
Despite David Hellam being away, courtesy of Alison and Beatrice Hellam, the sermon last Sunday by Rev’d Kathy Ferguson, was recorded! You can listen to it by following this link. Kathy has also promised to send me her text which is on her laptop in Wales. When I receive it, I’ll also upload it to the same page.

Until Sunday

Best wishes

Ricky
