Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

There is a lot to look forward to this coming Sunday.

Sunday 2nd March 2014 at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Sunday next before Lent

Our Gospel reading is the story of the Transfiguration as recorded in Matthew 17. 1-9. The supporting readings are Exodus 24. 12-18, which tells of Moses ascending a cloud covered Mount Sinai to receive the Law, and 2 Peter 1. 16-21 where the experience of the inner circle of the disciples witnessing the Transfiguration is also mentioned. Our preacher will be my friend and ministerial colleague, Rev’d Dr Karen Moritz.

During the service, I shall baptise Ata Alipour, an Iranian Christian young man who has been worshipping with us at St. Clement’s in recent weeks. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and Coffee Hour will follow the service. Ata has promised to bring some Iranian specialities to share with us at Coffee Hour!

Then in the following week, Lent begins.

Wednesday 5th March at 19.00 – Sung Eucharist for Ash Wednesday

Within the service, there will be the opportunity to receive the imposition of ashes. This is totally voluntary – you are welcome to attend the service & not receive imposition if that is your wish. However, I do encourage you to make every effort to attend this service, to mark the beginning of this important season of the Christian Year.

Lent 2014

As I wrote last week and as Rev’d Dr Karen Moritz explained last Sunday morning, this year we are planning a Lent course with a difference. Entitled ‘Discerning your Spiritual Gifts‘, it involves a fun interactive process, will be led by Karen and take place on five Tuesday evenings during Lent – 11th, 18th & 25th March, 1st & 8th April. Full details all about the course can be found here . Please read it through and seriously consider joining us on what I believe will be an interesting journey of discovery & a way of building up the spiritual life of St. Clements.

Copies of the book ‘Discerning your Spiritual Gifts‘, on which the course will be based, have now arrived and will be available for sale on Sunday, at the subsidised price of CZK 200. You don’t have to buy the book to join the course, but you may like to have a copy to accompany you through Lent.

Finally for this week

We still need a volunteer to run Coffee Hour on Sunday 9th March. Otherwise, there will be no Coffee Hour that Sunday! Please let me know if you would be willing to do this, either by replying to this email or by speaking with me on Sunday morning. There is a set of instructions & a explanation of the kitchen in Klimentská 18 can be provided this Sunday, if required.

Best wishes

Ricky
