Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

What a wonderful congregation we had last Sunday morning, both numerically and in the volume of our responses and singing! I did think we might need to check the Church roof after our rendition of Charles Wesley’s great hymn, ‘And can it be’  :-) My sermon from that service is now available to listen to on our Church website here.

With tomorrow, Friday 28th October, being a public holiday, celebrating how ninety-eight years ago, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk declared the independence of the new state of Czechoslovakia, I do hope that we won’t have too many people suffering from that disease I call ‘long-weekend-itis’ ;-)  Instead, plan to join us for worship!

Sunday 30th October at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Fourth Sunday before Advent

Our first reading will be Isaiah 1. 10-18, where the prophet has some strong words for his hearers who he calls ‘leaders of Sodom’ and ‘people of Gomorrah’. But for those who do change their ways, ‘though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.’ Our second reading will be 2 Thessalonians 1. 1-12, the first part of a letter of Paul that we shall hear from on the following two Sundays as well. Our Gospel reading will be Luke 19. 1-10, the delightful story of  Zacchaeus the tax collector, someone who very much changed his ways following his encounter with Jesus. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Coffee Hour in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

Please remember that the clocks go BACK one hour, overnight before this service!

All Saints Day, Tuesday 1st November 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18

The second of six Bible Studies, looking at Paul’s First Letter to Timothy followed by Evening Prayer. We had a very international group of participants last Tuesday evening. Why not join us all this coming Tuesday? If the ground floor door of Klimentská 18 is locked, press the bell marked Sborový Kancelář & we’ll buzz you in!

Three other things for this week……

ICS News & Prayer Diary: I collected our supply of the new November 16 – February 17 edition from the post office today. Copies will be available FREE at the back of Church on Sunday.

Tinned food & warm adult winter clothing supporting the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless: I am aware that the clothing wheelie bin is all but full and that there are a reasonable supply of tins in the other wheelie bin. I will be in touch with Captain Petr Janoušek to arrange the collection of the contents of both bins, sometime next week. But in the meantime, how about a few more tins for the bin this Sunday?

Remembrance poppies: Thanks to Diane Tvaroha, these will be available at the back of Church this coming Sunday and on the following two Sundays, in return for a donation to the poppy appeal.

And finally…….

I’m currently still without an organist for this coming Sunday! I’ve already asked four, none of whom are available. If you can play for us or know someone who can, please contact me ASAP.

Until Sunday

Best wishes

Ricky
