Dear People & Friends of St. Clements,

I’m getting my Weekly Message out much earlier than usual this week for one important reason. As I hope you are all already aware, immediately following our Family Eucharist at 11.00am this coming Sunday 26th June, we are having a Summer Picnic in the park on Lannova which lies between the Church and the Vltava River. I & your Church Council have been encouraging you not only to come yourselves but to invite other friends to come too. To this end, David Hellam has very kindly created a colourful flyer as a pdf file, so that you can print off copies & use it as an invitation. I realised that if I didn’t circulate it very soon, it would be a bit late! So here it is! To download the flyer, click >>>HERE<<<.

Please do think who of your friends you could invite who don’t normally come to Church. Ideally we’d like them to come with you to the service first, but if they are unsure about that, invite them to join us for the picnic at around 12.30pm so they can see that Church people can have fun together.

For the picnic, please bring food & drink that can be shared. A number of people have volunteered to provide extra food so that invited guests are not necessarily expected to bring food & drink with them. We will also be providing plastic cups & cutlery, together with paper plates, so there is no need to bring any of these. Please plan to come & please invite others to join you.

Looking ahead to next week – Thursday 30th June between 12.30-2.00 – Ethics at Lunchtime at Mlýnec, Novotného Lávka 9, Prague 1

The next in our series of lunchtime discussions organised jointly by St. Clement’s and the British Chamber of Commerce in the CR.

Discussion topic “The Big Society – is civic participation essential to a properly functioning democracy”

Full details & how to register can be found here.

“Jesus needs a new tablecloth”

I thought that might grab your attention but it is what our Sacristan, Marshall Johnson actually said to me on Sunday. Our long white altar cloth is getting increasingly holier but for the wrong reasons! It really does need to be replaced. We also really need 6-8 new purificators, the cloths used by those administering the chalice to wipe the rim of the chalice between each communicant receiving.

Rather than straining the Chaplaincy finances further, is there someone who would be willing to make a donation of the cost of a new altar cloth & some purificators – maybe in memory of a loved one? If so, please drop me a line. Marshall did say that for the purificators, if we didn’t choose to buy ready-made ones, he would be happy to donate the material if there was someone with the sewing skills & a sewing machine who would be willing to cut the material and then hem all the edges. If you would be willing to do that – then please also drop me a line.

And finally for this week……

I want to thank various people who have responded to my request in last week’s message, for ideas for topics we might address on Tuesday evenings or suggestions for social or fundraising events we might organise this coming Autumn/Fall season. But there is still time for further suggestions. So if you forgot to respond last week but had something to suggest, please do so very soon. I’d love to hear from you!

Hoping to see many of you at St. Clement’s this coming Sunday and at the picnic following.

Best wishes

Ricky
