Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

I want to start my ‘Weekly Message’ by thanking everyone who made our new Archdeacon Colin Williams, so welcome during his time with us last weekend.  I know that I, together with the Churchwardens and Church Council, found his visit both helpful and encouraging. He in turn has written to me, thanking everybody for our hospitality and for introducing him ‘to the delights of Prague food and drink!’ If you missed hearing Archdeacon Colin’s sermon or want to listen to it again, then you can do so by following this link:

Now looking ahead to this coming Sunday & the week that follows.

Sunday 22nd November at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Sunday next before Advent – Christ the King
This coming Sunday is the last Sunday of the Church or Christian Year and has the theme of celebrating the kingship of Christ – hence it is commonly known as Christ the King. Our readings will be Psalm 93, which begins with the words, ‘The Lord is King’; followed by Revelation 1. 4b-8, the preamble to the letters to the seven Churches of Asia, to whom the text of the Book of Revelation was originally sent. Our Gospel reading breaks in on part of the passion narrative of the Gospel of John – John 18. 33-37, where Jesus responds to Pontius Pilate’s question, ‘Are you the King of the Jews’, by explaining that his kingdom, ‘is not of this world’.

On Sunday, we will have a number of English-speaking international guests of our host denomination, the Českobratrská Církev Evangelická, joining us for worship. They will be in Prague for the installation of the new Moderator and Synodal Council of the ČCE, which takes on Saturday afternoon at Salvátor Church. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Coffee Hour in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

Tuesday 24th November – 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18.
Our regular Tuesday evening meetings for Study and Fellowship continue, looking at St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. Picking up from where we reached last week, we will be looking at 1 Corinthian 7. As we normally do, the last 15-20 minutes will be spent saying Evening Prayer together. If the outside door of Klimentská 18 is locked, please press the bell marked Kancelář & you’ll be buzzed in!

Thursday 26th November – 19:00 chez Hellam, Namesti Interbrigady 949/3, Bubenec,
between the Lotyšská and Zelená tram stops, our Alpha Course will continue. It includes dinner for everyone, so if you’re planning to come tell David, david(at)hellam(dot)net or 722 223 097

Three other things to highlight…..

Poppy appeal
The total raised by the collection, kindly organised by Diane Tvaroha, was CZK 1984. Thank you to everybody who contributed.

Collecting tinned food & warm winter clothing for the work of the Salvation Army with the homeless in Prague
I’ve finally been able to arrange for the contents of both red wheelie bins at the back of the Church, to be collected next Monday 23rd November. Therefore, more tinned food would be most welcome this Sunday, but please hold off from bringing more warm winter clothing for one more week, until the bin has been emptied, as it’s currently over full.

Bishop Robert’s Advent Appeal
Below are details of Bishop Robert’s Advent Appeal, to support the work of the Anglican Chaplaincy in Athens, working with other Churches, to help refugees fleeing the continuing conflict in Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East. Those of you who were in Church last Sunday, will have heard first hand details about this from Archdeacon Colin, who had been in Athens the previous weekend.

I intend to print envelopes marked ‘Bishop’s Advent Appeal‘, which will available at the back of Church into which you can put your donation & place it in the offertory basket. Your Church Council has also agreed that the collection taken at the Service of Lessons & Carols on the evening of Sunday 13th December, will be given to the Bishop’s Appeal Fund.

Best wishes
