Dear People & Friends of St. Clements,
I want to start this week by thanking everybody who contributed to making our Pentecost service last Sunday, such a great success.
- Everybody who came to Church wearing something RED. There were some wonderful outfits!
- Everybody who welcomed the Holy Spirit in another language. For the record, we had Catalan, Telugu, German, Czech, Greek, Russian, Hindi, Spanish, French, Welsh & Sign language!
- David Hellam for explaining the fruits of the Spirit with the children and for leading our intercessions.
- Richard York & Gordon Truefit for reading the scriptures.
- And of course, Rev’d Dr Karen Moritz for being our preacher & who, along with a few others, was responsible for suggesting several of the things that we did to celebrate Pentecost. It really was a great occasion.
Here is a photo of Karen & myself wearing our respective red stoles and our rather contrasting black & white outfits!
Looking ahead……
Sunday 3rd June – Trinity Sunday – 11.00 Sung Eucharist
This is the one Sunday in the Christian Year given over to a doctrine rather than celebrating an event in the life of Jesus Christ or one of the Saints. It is a Sunday that always requires a little bit more sermon preparation time . There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and we shall be serving Cool Refreshments at the back of Church following the service, now that the weather is warmer.
Tuesday 5th June – 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18
After looking last Tuesday evening at how Jesus is portrayed in the Gospel of John, we shall move on and look at how Jesus is portrayed in the Acts of the Apostles, particularly in the preaching of the first Apostles. We had a good small group last Tuesday with all three of our Scottish members present!
A Reminder……..
………that the Wheelie Bin for collecting tinned food to help support the work of the Salvation Army with homeless people in Prague is now back in Church. Basically, any food item in a tin but NOT sauces, pasta, or other dried goods in packets or plastic bottles. In pictures & words on the outside of the bin, there is a clear indication of what is & isn’t required. Why not buy a few extra tins when you are next shopping at your local Billa, Albert or Tesco supermarket & bring them to Church on Sunday & put them in the wheelie bin?
To that supermarket list I should now add Kaufland as yesterday, a brand new large Kaufland supermarket opened in Podbaba within about 3 minutes walking distance of the Chaplaincy Flat – a real boon for Sybille & myself.
And to end this week…..
A note of thanks and a note of apology
Courtesy of a generous donation from a member of the congregation, together with a contribution from Sybille & myself, the Chaplaincy is now the owner of a shiny new laptop computer on which I’m writing this email. Unfortunately, the previous desktop computer was getting quite elderly and the on-board battery had died meaning there was a very high risk of losing some if not all of my data.
Aided by Sybille, we have now successfully (we hope!), transferred all my email and files across onto this new machine. But this has meant that I am very behind with answering emails and dealing with other things for the Church Council. If you are waiting to hear from me, I beg your patience & hope to get back to you very soon!
Best wishes
Ricky
