Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

As I mentioned, both in my Weekly Message of last Friday, and when giving the notices last Sunday morning, tomorrow I’m flying off to attend the annual meeting of our Eastern Archdeaconry Synod, in the company of Jack Noonan & Gordon Truefitt, your two elected lay synod representatives. Hence this regular ‘Weekly Message’, is going out this evening rather than on Friday.

Unusually this year, rather than being hosted by one of the Chaplaincies in the Eastern Archdeaconry, our meeting is taking place in England, at a Retreat Centre in Woking, Surrey. One of the reasons for this, is to allow us to meet some of the staff from our Diocesan Office, who normally are only names on the end of emails. We will also be hearing from the Appointments Secretary, overseeing the appointment of our new Anglican Diocesan Bishop, to replace +Geoffrey when he retires in early November. The retreat centre in Woking, is fortunately very accessible from London Gatwick Airport, meaning that I can fly there by SqeezyJet, (as Nia Voase has delightfully christened EasyJet), tomorrow lunchtime, and fly back to Prague on Sunday evening.

In my absence, our worship this Sunday morning at St. Clement’s, will be led by David Hellam.

Sunday 22nd September at 11.00 – A Service of the Word celebrating Harvest Festival

The service will be relatively short, children and family friendly, but with plenty for adults as well. As David mentioned last Sunday, in celebrating that, ‘all good gifts around us, are sent from heaven above’, we want everybody to bring some more tinned food – meat, fish, vegetables – as long as it is in a tin! Everything you bring on Sunday, will be placed into the big red wheelie bin that we have at the back of Church, to be used by the Salvation Army in their work with feeding the homeless people in Prague.

I’ve already asked the Salvation Army to come and collect their wheelie bin next week. I don’t want to be embarrassed. I want to present them with a full bin – even better, an overflowing bin! Please add some extra tins to your shopping trolley this week, and bring them with you to Church on Sunday.

There will be Cool Drinks & Light Refreshments served at the back of Church, following our worship.

Tuesday 24th September 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18

Our regular midweek Study & Fellowship sessions continue. This coming Tuesday, we have the third in our series, ‘Questions of Faith‘ entitled What’s so unique about Jesus? As last week, when we had a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening discussion, I’ll introduce the topic, but will welcome input from others. We’ll end the session by once more saying Evening Prayer together.

Sunday 29th September at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity

There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and Cool Drinks & Light Refreshments served at the back of Church, following our worship.

Looking further ahead…..

The planned social event which I previously advertised as being put back by two weeks, to Friday 11th October has unfortunately been put back by a further two weeks, to Friday 25th October. But that date is now very firmly fixed! This from the chief organiser, Gordon Truefitt.

St CLEMENT`S HARVESTIDE GATHERING – 7pm, FRIDAY 25th OCTOBER – Michelský dvůr.

Gather your wits, your finery, your lust for life – Gather your family, friends, neighbours and colleagues old and new – AND COME for a glorious celebration of Music – Festive food, Drink, Fellowship, and Fun and Frolic – for those who fancy it. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it!” ..and all for less than 300Kc! – full details soon – but start gathering your party now!

Please support David on Sunday, don’t forget your tinned food, and pray for our Synod Meeting.

Best wishes

Ricky
