Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

There is a busy week ahead so I’d better get on straight-away & tell you all about it.

Sunday 20th January at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Third Sunday of Epiphany

This Sunday, in the ‘sermon slot’, there will be a multi media presentation by Gordon Truefitt of some material that he, Jack Noonan & I first saw and heard at our Eastern Archdeaconry Synod meeting last September which we were encouraged to share with our respective Chaplaincies. Do make sure you’re there to see & hear it on Sunday! There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and the service will be followed by Coffee Hour in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

Monday 21st January at 18.00 – Service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

This year’s service organised by the Czech Ecumenical Council & the Roman Catholic Czech Bishops Conference takes place in Cirkev bratrská, Soukenická 15, Praha 1. Soukenická is parallel to Klimentská, one street nearer to the Palladium Shopping Centre so very easy to access & find. It is the same venue where several of us attended the launch of the Czech edition of John Stott’s book, ‘Through the Bible, through the year’ in December 2011.

The service will of course be in Czech! Karen Moritz & I are definitely going & if you are interested in joining us, please speak with one of us on Sunday morning or drop me a note by email.

Tuesday 22nd January 18.30 – 20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18.

The third of our studies looking at Strong women in the Bible will focus on Esther & will be led by Matthew Moistner. As I said to those attending last Tuesday, it would be good if you could read the book in advance of Tuesday evening. Do join us if you can. We had a very good group & discussion last Tuesday.

Friday 25th January – A Burn`s Night Ceilidh

Gordon tells me that we already have good numbers booked for this event but that there is still room for a few more. Details, in full technicolour, can be found here. Bookings to Gordon gordontruefitt(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk ASAP, certainly no later than very early next week as he has to give numbers for catering to the venue. Both our Church Treasurer & Churchwarden have promised to attend, wearing their respective kilts. What more incentive to be present do you need??????

An apology

As I wrote last week, many of you have lamented the lack of a St. Clements directory so that you can contact other members directly or share information generally. This is not possible for a number of reasons, the main one being your privacy and also the law in relation to data protection. However a solution is now available. We have started, or rather `extended` an existing email `loop`, into a private Yahoo Group called the Friends of St. Clements, which you can join and be able to contact other St. Clements members, or tell us all about church or other events you’re interested in or are attending, or just stuff that you think we all ought to know about. Good or what?!

However, many of you had problems trying to sign up because the link did not appear to work. Having raised this with with the instigators, the advice I have been given is as follows.

The Yahoo group system seems to work only one way – the way Mr. Yahoo wants it to work. So the easiest way to join is to send a blank email to: FriendsofStClements-subscribe@yahoogroups.com  This will get you into the group at the `receive and send posts` level, and you`ll also get a welcome email telling you about all the other tricks the site can do, and how to get them if you want them. If you want `out` at any point; all you have to do is send another blank email as above but with `unsubscribe` in the email address.

Enough from me for now! Very best wishes

Ricky
