Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

I want to start my ‘Weekly’ this week by thanking everyone who made the effort last Sunday morning, to attend our Joint Service with the Czech Old Catholics in their Cathedral of Sv Vavřince on Petřín Hill. We had an excellent turnout, despite it being a long weekend, and many of those of you who attended said to me following worship, how much you had enjoyed the service.

The second thing I want to say, is to remind you that today is Ascension Day and that we will mark and celebrate it this evening.

Thursday 14th May at 19.00 – Sung Eucharist for Ascension Day
Although not a public holiday in the Czech Republic, despite being so in every neighbouring country, I do hope many of you will still join us to mark this important day in the Christian Year and celebrate the ascension of Jesus into heaven at the end of his forty days of resurrection appearances. The service should be no longer than an hour, so Ice Hockey fans should still be able to watch the Czech Republic – Finland quarter final game in the Ice Hockey World Championships :-)

Things then return to ‘normal’ on Sunday

Sunday 17th May at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Seventh Sunday of Easter
Next Sunday is also known as the Sunday after Ascension Day. Our first reading will be Acts 1. 15-17 & 21-26, which describes an event that happened between the ascension of Jesus into heaven and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost – the election of Matthias to replace Judas Iscariot as one of ‘the twelve’. We will also have a further reading from the first letter of John, 1 John 5. 9-13. Our Gospel reading will be part of what is often called Jesus’ ‘High Priestly Prayer’ – John 17. 6-19. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Coffee Hour in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

Looking further ahead…….
There will NOT be a Study Group meeting on Tuesday 19th May. Unfortunately, I have to be somewhere else that evening. However, I will lead a Study Group session on Tuesday 26th May, looking at one of the Psalms.

Sunday 24th May – Pentecost Sunday
As we have in the last two years, I invite you to come to Church on Pentecost Sunday, wearing something RED, the liturgical colour of the day. And again, I want to hear the words, ‘The Lord is here. His Spirit is with us.‘ in as many languages as possible. If you can say those words in any language other than English, please let me know by dropping me an email or speaking with me tonight or on Sunday.

Best wishes

Ricky
