Dear People & Friends of St. Clement’s,

I normally start my regular ‘Weekly Message’, by telling you what is happening on Sunday. However this week, I need to start with what is happening tomorrow Saturday 14th March

Walking outside the Box –  mini pilgrimage to Budeč
Full detail from Gordon Truefitt are:

Itinerary

At 12.47 we leave on the 350 bus (32Kc) from the Dejvická roundabout, (just by the Airport bus stop – 119), arriving:-

At 13.29 in Okoř; where we can take a look at the picturesque substantial castle ruins, and refresh ourselves at the adjacent Restaurace.

At 14.30 we start to follow the Zakolansky stream on a firm track through an attractive valley, via two mills, to Kovary viaduct ,where we cross the stream and the railway line, and then continue North on another track to our Pilgrimage target; the Castle and Rotunda of St`s Peter & Paul at Budeč.

At 16.30 we leave Budeč for the final half kilometer to the Post office in Zakolany and;

At 16.49 we catch the 2200023 29 bus (42Kc); arriving:

At 17.35 back at the Dejvická roundabout.

I checked the weather forecast again; and it now says; it will be dry, sunny but with some cloud – 6 to 9°C, and hardly any wind. The walk itself is 6.1km and takes about 1hr45mins.

Pilgrim thoughts `Outside the Box`:

Getting in touch with your own personal God, and allowing Him to guide you through your own life, is where we all need to be. It is a state of being that is totally; free, content, alive, joyful and exciting; it puts the `whole` in Holy. But getting into that way of life is not easy for most of us. What we consider to be reality can obscure even the possibility. Pilgrimage can be a way of getting through that obstruction. Here are some ideas for thought; as you see, hear, feel, and experience things around you as you walk along.

If you enjoy your sport or recreation; don’t be afraid to play with God. Enjoy every step!

See you! Gordon

It would help Gordon if you could let him know in advance if you are planning to come.

Sunday 15th March at 11.00 – Sung Eucharist for the Fourth Sunday of Lent
Being the Fourth Sunday in Lent, it is Mothering Sunday for British & Irish mothers, and historically was known as Refreshment Sunday, being half way through Lent, a day on which you could relax a little from your Lenten discipline. Our Gospel reading will be John 3. 14-21 which of course includes that most well-known Bible verse, ‘For God so loved the world……’. The supporting readings are Numbers 21. 4-9, together with Ephesians 2. 1-10. There will be parallel Children’s Ministry and following worship, Coffee Hour in the hall on the third floor of Klimentská 18.

Advance warning that I have gone down with what Gordon Truefitt describes as ‘the lurgy‘ – I have a very sore throat & my body aches. However, having not missed a single Sunday through ill health in the six & a half years I have been Chaplain in Prague, I have every intention of being with you on Sunday morning, even if I do have to croak a little, to get through the service.

Tuesday 17th March – 18.30-20.00 in the small meeting room on the first floor of Klimentská 18.
Our five week Lent Course continues. In this year of the 600th anniversary of the martyrdom of Jan Hus, our Lent course is looking at various aspects of the Bohemian Reformation. This coming Tuesday our topic will be:

Jan Hus and the Bohemian Reformation from the Perspective of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church.
Our presenter will be Hana Tonzarová. I’ve only met Hana briefly but Karen Moritz assures me that she is an engaging speaker, who made an excellent presentation on this subject to her visiting seminar group last year.

Venue: Small meeting room on the first floor of Klimenská 18. If the outside door of Klimentská 18 is locked, please press the bell marked Kancelář & we’ll buzz you in! As we normally do on Tuesday evenings, the last twenty minutes of our time will be spent saying Evening Prayer together.

A reminder that our final session will be:

24th March        The legacy of the Bohemian Reformation Today.
Presenter:  Dr. Peter Moree.

Annual Church Meeting
Another reminder that our Annual Church Meeting will take place following worship, on Sunday 19th April 2015.
At the ACM, two Churchwardens, one Archdeaconry Synod rep, together with up to nine ordinary Church Council members, will be elected. In order to vote or to stand for election, your need to be a member of our Church Electoral Roll (CER). The current CER is displayed on the noticeboard at the back of the Church. If your name appears there, you need to do nothing!

If you are not on the CER but would like to be, then application forms are available in a folder pinned to the noticeboard at the back of Church. To apply, you need to be baptized and a member of the Church of England or any of the other Anglican or Old Catholic Churches in full communion with the Church of England & be normally resident in the Czech Republic. Or, you need to be baptized and be a member in good standing of a Church which subscribes to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, and to have ‘habitually attended public worship’ with us for at least the last six months, and be normally resident in the Czech Republic.

That’s enough from me for this week

Best wishes

Ricky
